Paraben Free Skin Care: Everything You Wanted To Know About It

If you have a look through your cosmetics and creams you might find some products marked as paraben free skin care. But what does this mean? Parabens are chemicals which are usually used as preservatives, because they are antifungal and antibacterial. Parabens can also occur naturally in some fruits like blueberries, but the ones that we find in cosmetics are lab produced.

Why do you think paraben is a problem?

The extent of danger of man-made chemicals can only be ascertained after several years of exposure, while natural parabens produced in foods can be broken down by our metabolism. But the chemical that is applied to the skin can be quite harmful for our body.

Scientists have studied that paraben can be quite dangerous for the skin as it stimulates the estrogen hormone, which can lead to cancer. There are many kinds of parabens, to mention a few: isoparaben, buytlparaben, methylparaben and many more.

Hence, this component is usually found in breast cancer patients. Although, there is no real proof that this component is the main cause for cancer, yet it is under a serious suspicion for such a disease. This is why it is always recommended to use natural or organic skin care products.

Is there any alternative for parabens?

There are many natural ingredients that can replace this chemical, as synthetic ingredients will only fancily overtake natural products. Resorting to natural or organic skin care products can be more affective in the long run.

How can I know before I buy a product?

• Label: you need to check the label carefully for two very important words - fragrance and paraben. If you see any of the two listed, chances are that the store owner really cares about making money, and does not care about protecting your health. Why fragrances? This is because the manufacturers do not reveal what is inside these fragrances. Although the good smelling products seem okay, they could possibly have harmful ingredients in them.

• Research: the only way to find out if a particular product is paraben free skin care is to go to the official website and look for the ingredients that have been put into the product. You could also ask the dealer who is selling these products to you. If you find that the product does not have a website, forget about buying the product.

• Do not go with fancy: do not buy a product just because it comes in a fancy packet and smells nice. You certainly do not want your skin to testify the bad sides of this chemical. Paraben free skin care products will hopefully be the industry standard someday, but it is always best to resort to natural skin care products and say no to synthetic ingredients. Always remember to do a little research about the product before you buy your products from any source.
